Richard co-founded Momentum in 2005 to create a design-focussed engineering company. As a problem solving, hands-on engineer, Richard wanted to find a way to remain engaged in active practice; leading projects and carrying out both conceptual and detailed design work.
Richard has been working on existing buildings and listed structures since his first project, the award winning refurbishment of the Royal Court Theatre in London. Work on existing buildings has since evolved to include both conservation work and reuse and alteration. He approaches involves an extensive mix of experience and learning of traditional materials and construction techniques. Decisions on structural integrity often rely on judgement or alternative justifications as numerical methods and proof by the use of new loading codes and standards are not always relevant.
Notable recent projects include The Holburne Museum, The Garden Museum, Bristol Old Vic and St Albans Cathedral.
